• School, Swiftel share event center’s gear
BROOKINGS – The Shamrock is gone but not forgotten.
In fact, the former events center and bar will be with Brookings and at least one area community for years to come.
Vacated buildings are recycled all the time, but in this case, it’s the Shamrock’s first-class, restaurant kitchen that will live on.
The Brookings City Council last week set aside $28,175 in its 2014 budget for the Swiftel Center: The city’s event center is acquiring ovens, hot boxes, china, a steamer and chafers, water glasses and speed carts – all courtesy of the defunct Shamrock.
