School libraries take ‘21st Century’ awards

• Brookings High, Mickelson Middle school libraries recognized with new state award

BROOKINGS – School libraries in South Dakota got their first shot this year at being recognized as among the best by the State Library’s new 21st Century School Library Award. Brookings High School and Mickelson Middle School were among just 20 libraries in the state to earn the award this year at three different levels.

The 21st Century School Library program identifies school libraries as Effective, Enhanced or Exemplary, based on performance in three areas: Place – the learning environment, both physical and online – programming and professionalism.
