DNA technology helps Brookings property manager avoid unpleasant chore

BROOKINGS You're a responsible dog owner. When your spaniel Sammy drops a steamer, you scoop and dispose of it.

Out there, however, are irresponsible pet owners who don't mind leaving their dog's feces on the ground in places both public and private like your front yard.

Now science via DNA technology has come up with a way to deter such scofflaws. It's called PooPrints and is the brainchild of a Sioux Falls-based company called DooGooders. It's being used here in Brookings for the first time by Shawn Storhaug, Brookings Property Management, who oversees a complex of 45 apartments where 22 of the residents have dogs.
