Function, style improved at school buildings

BROOKINGS – It’s true: School begins here in less than three weeks. And this year, as always, students and teachers will return to find some needed updates to their school buildings have been completed over the summer.

Here’s what the Brookings School District is doing in its five buildings this summer, as explained by Business Manager Brian Lueders, who budgets the money to make this work happen.


Of the five school buildings, Hillcrest Elementary has received the most money in updates this year. Several rooms inside the school have been restructured: A custodial storage room has become a restroom, a girls’ restroom has become a staff workroom, the old workroom has become part of a boys’ bathroom, and a small bathroom near the nurse’s office has been converted to a family bathroom. And, the school now has a conference room, made from the former nurse’s office and a paper storage room.
