• Brookings biotech firm to develop improved treatment for breast cancer survivors
BROOKINGS – A Brookings-based biotech firm, Medgene Labs, has been awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for its research related to breast cancer.
Medgene will receive Small Business Innovation Research grant funding of more than $135,000, it was announced Thursday. The grant will be used to achieve Phase 1 objectives in the company’s research.
Company leaders said they expect the initial award will lead to second-phase funding of more than $1 million to advance project development.
Located in the Brookings Biospace Center on 32nd Avenue, Medgene Labs is a biotechnology product development company. It is affiliated with South Dakota Innovation Partners, a venture capital firm with offices in Brookings and Sioux Falls.
