Park’s in good shape, but ... Will shoppers cross 6th St. this weekend?

• Road work leaves questions about outside vendors during annual festival

BROOKINGS – Yes, Sixth Street is a mess outside Pioneer Park right now.

And yes, the Brookings Summer Arts Festival will definitely happen inside the park this weekend.

But will all the booths across the street – which are not part of the festival – be there as usual? And will shoppers be able to easily get to them?

Answers to those questions weren’t quite as definite this week.

Several property owners who rent space to these outside vendors said they still expect vendors and they hope for a good means of crossing the street. Meanwhile, the S.D. Department of Transportation said this week that Tuesday’s early morning storm collapsed a portion of the storm sewer, slowing its work and forcing it to turn to Plan B.
