BROOKINGS – All city council meetings are important, some more so than others; but this week’s business session promises to deal with some key issues that will affect the city for years to come.
Chief among those topics will be a review of the City of Brookings Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan, the blueprint for construction spending and equipment acquisition for the next five years.
Some of the things they might discuss? Wine lovers, for example, might like to know that the municipal liquor store wants to buy a wine-dispensing machine to offer samples of its premier brands. Builders and contractors might note that the council is planning for a $4.5 million Street Department headquarters and garage building. And developers should be interested in the councilors’ discussion about the future of the city’s Research & Technology Center on 32nd Avenue – they are considering razing the business incubator building and offering the land for sale.
