BROOKINGS – Brookings Mayor Tim Reed hopes Mother Nature is in a more cooperative mood this year.

The health-conscious Reed tried to launch the Mayor’s Ride & Walk last year, but instead of sunshine and spring flowers, he got a deluge.

Over the weekend of the celebration, the Brookings party had more than 4 inches of rain dumped on it. And some areas in the county reported as much as 7 inches of rain, along with hail!

Organizers tried to find a rain date, but scheduling conflicts kept the ride/walk from happening.

So even though the first Mayor’s Ride & Walk never actually materialized, Reed and sponsors are billing this year’s effort as the “second annual,” and it’s on the city calendar for Saturday, June 1.
