• Facility committee tells school board what it wants for youngest students
BROOKINGS – A new primary school with rooms to serve specific needs and some rejuvenation for the two existing primaries – that’s what a facility needs committee told Brookings School Board members it wants within the next several years for the district’s youngest students.
Teachers Tony Lanning, Kristin Coon and Jodee Hadley presented the information, with background information provided by Superintendent Roger DeGroot. DeGroot said the facility needs committee was created six to eight weeks ago and includes a number of other people. DeGroot and board members Steve Bayer and Marysz Rames were part of the committee.
Lanning, a Title I teacher at Medary Elementary, said the group’s vision is to improve all primary school facilities by building a new early childhood/K-3 school and updating the existing K-3 schools.
