• Council gets first figures for southern expansion

BROOKINGS – It will cost the City of Brookings $6.1 million to begin its expansion to the south.

And that’s just for starters.

The Brookings City Council on Tuesday gave its authorization to proceed with funding for the Main Avenue South Improvement Project, and the cost for the initial infrastructure work has been estimated at $6,169,200.

“That’s the whole enchilada,” said City Manager Jeff Weldon, explaining the project’s scope of work.

The estimates include storm sewer and sanitary sewer lines installed along Main Avenue South from 20th Street South to 40th Street South.
