• Oaklake request for gravel work tabled, will wait for discussion next Tuesday
BROOKINGS – Oaklake Township made the first request Tuesday on a pot of money Brookings County commissioners set aside last year for economic development aid to townships.
Oaklake will have to wait a couple of weeks while the commission makes its plan for distributing the money, but the township at least got the ball rolling toward an organized system.
Three Oaklake representatives came to ask the commission for help graveling a one-mile stretch of road in eastern Brookings County – 481st Avenue, between 196th Street and 197th Street – for the estimated cost of $5,500-$6,500. That mile runs between multiple Buffalo Ridge II wind towers, and township supervisor Ed Hulsebus said tracks in the road are nearly a foot deep.
