Bielfeldt: Watch out for taxes, saving the arts

BROOKINGS – Dennis Bielfeldt has formally announced his candidacy for the Brookings School Board.

A South Dakota State University professor of philosophy and religion for 15 years, Bielfeldt received his bachelor of science degree from SDSU in 1977 and his master’s degree (1984) and Ph.D. (1987) from the University of Iowa. He has three children in the Brookings schools and had two others graduate earlier.

Bielfeldt is CEO of Den-Wil Inc. and president and CEO of the Institute of Lutheran Theology.

The candidate says he is running for two reasons: First, he believes that strong local funding helps build strong public schools, and he worries about the future of such funding. Second, he believes that students should have maximum opportunity in school to explore music and the arts.
