Fire destroys hog barn, equipment near Toronto

BROOKINGS – A hog barn and some farm equipment that was stored inside of it were destroyed in a fire south of Toronto on Thursday afternoon.

According to Brookings County Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring, authorities were called to the scene at 47859 197th St. at about 2 p.m.

The barn fire started on the east end of the building and quickly moved west, consuming the rest of the structure with the help of a fairly strong wind. Sebring said it’s not known what ignited the blaze.
