Robotic surgery comes to Brookings

• Brookings Health purchases da Vinci surgical system, first use scheduled for March

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Health System (BHS) has purchased a robotic surgical system for its operating room, it was announced today by Jason Merkley, BHS chief executive officer.

The da Vinci Si Surgical System is designed to facilitate complex surgery using a minimally invasive approach, Merkley said. The multi-armed robot is controlled by a surgeon working from a console.

“Da Vinci will become a cornerstone of our operations,” the CEO said. “It’s a new vision for surgery and health care services at BHS – one more tool that will continue the momentum we’ve developed. It will help position us on the cutting edge of health care delivery."
