BROOKINGS – State climatologist Dennis Todey was crunching the numbers this morning for an official snowfall total in Brookings, but he said he was looking at maybe 5 to 6 inches. No record there.
But In addition to being a heavy by inches measurement, the snowfall was heavy "from a liquid standpoint, so that's a good thing," Todey added. "It's good to get some more moisture on the ground. A little bit of this might get into soil moisture – not too much of it – but it will help us through some runoff."
Todey said of the blizzard that bushwacked the Brookings area, "We were on the south end of the heaviest part of it. The heaviest snow out of this ended up being roughly north and east of about Aberdeen to Highmore to around Brookings. There were totals up to 15-plus inches up in the far northeast part of that area."
