Wichita State hires media historian Cecil as director

WICHITA – Matthew Cecil, a media historian with a professional communication background, has been selected as the next director of the Elliott School of Communi-cation at Wichita State University.

Cecil, an associate professor in the South Dakota State University Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, will begin work at Wichita State June 30. He will succeed Lou Heldman, who has served as interim director since 2011.

At WSU, Cecil will be responsible for about 30 faculty and staff members and courses that enroll more than 2,000 students annually.
