• Conditional use ordinance may get final vote
BROOKINGS – Several high-interest items appear on this week’s council agenda, but it’s likely the most important item on the schedule Tuesday won’t get more than a few words of discussion.
This week the councilors will give first reading – no debate – to an ordinance that would ban texting while driving in Brookings, and they’re likely to make a final decision on shortening the process for getting a conditional use permit.
But the action that will have the most immediate impact on Brookings citizens will be the council’s approval for a $30.6 million loan for the overhaul of the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
