Members of the Norse Glee Club of Sioux Falls greeted 37 visiting Norwegian farmers touring the area in a welcoming ceremony at the Stan Hesby farm south of Volga Wednesday. The late Stan Hesby, who died in a train-tractor mishap Sept. 14, was a member of the glee club and had spent months working out the details and planning for the visitors, members of a Norwegian vintage tractor club.
Dozens of Hesby’s friends and neighbors and fellow tractor enthusiasts turned out to continue Hesby’s work, and helped greet the visitors, who were shown more than 30 vintage tractors, treated to a noon luncheon at the farm, and then visited the Brookings County Museum, VanderWal Farm beef units and the soybean plant in Volga before resuming their two-week tour.
The Norse Glee Club sang the Norwegian National Anthem as the visitors exited the bus upon arrival.
