South Dakota State's Nic McCay earns third weekly pitching award

McCay tossed six shutout innings in his last start against North Dakota State.

For the third time in the last four weeks, South Dakota State right-hander Nic McCay has been honored as the TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week.

In his latest outing, McCay pitched six shutout innings in an April 5 start at North Dakota State, a game the Jackrabbits won, 5-1. The senior from Carlisle, Iowa, struck out 10 and allowed three hits and three walks in improving to 3-0 on the season.

For the season, McCay has posted a 2.27 earned run average over seven starts, has registered 58 strikeouts and 15 bases on balls in 39 2/3 innings, and is limiting the opposition to a .205 batting average. He previously received the award March 18 and 25 following respective starts against Oral Roberts and St. Thomas.

The Jackrabbits, 13-16 overall and 6-5 in The Summit League, are scheduled to play their home opener Tuesday afternoon against Northwestern (Iowa). First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Erv Huether Field.
