Lynette Avonne Clasen, age 72, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, at her home after a battle with cancer.
A visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Eidsness Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m, Saturday, March 9, at Pioneer Lutheran Church, rural White, SD. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to the Avera Cancer Institute online at averafoundation.org and select in memory of Lyn Clasen. Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lyn was born on March 31, 1951, in Hendricks, MN, to Maurice and Ruth (Hartley) Madsen. She grew up on the family farm west of White, SD, with her three siblings. Lyn graduated from Deubrook High School in 1969 and went on to attend Watertown Business School. After school, she moved Sioux Falls and then to Brookings where she met Gary Clasen of Rock Rapids, IA. They were married in Brookings on May 26, 1979, and had three children.
Lyn worked for Sioux Valley Energy in Colman, SD, for 31 years until she retired due to loss of sight. Lyn loved attending and being active in her children’s events. She was very proud to lead Amanda’s Girl Scout troop and serve as an assistant troop leader for Alyssa’s troop. She was involved in Girl Scouts for 10 years and was leader of the year once. She was also involved with BISA supporting boys and girls ice hockey throughout the years. Even after she lost her sight, her helpful and positive attitude never wavered and she would always find ways to help including driving a golf cart at the family farm when cleaning up the property. She also enjoyed spending time with and spoiling her three grandchildren.
Survivors include three children, Amanda Clasen of Brookings, SD, Alyssa Clasen of Apple Valley, MN, and Garret (Abby) Clasen of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren, Grace, Liam and Emma; siblings, James Madsen of Watertown, SD, Cheryl Madsen of Minneapolis, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband of 40 years; Gary, her parents; infant brother, David Madsen; brother Steven Madsen, sister-in-law, Barb Madsen.
