Brookings represented in SDAHA Awards

10 Rangers were honored by the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association

BROOKINGS – The South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association Awards were given out this week and 10 members of the Brookings Rangers were honored.

The Rangers won their fourth-straight state championship on Sunday. Three players were named to the All-State First Team. Owen Schneider, Luke Honkomp and Egan Jensen were all First Team honorees and Jacob Kahle was named to the Second Team.

Head coach Garrett Gerstner was named the SDAHA Coach of the Year. Jack Merrit was Brookings’ representative for the Hobey Baker Character Award after showing character, commitment, persistence, selflessness, academic excellence and sportsmanship.

David Brink, Jack Merritt, Jacob Law, Andrew Sternhagen and Schneider were named Academic All-State. Brink also received the Friends of South Dakota Hockey Scholarship.
