LAKE NORDEN – A 69-year-old Estelline woman has been identified as the person who died Monday in a two-vehicle fatal crash east of Lake Norden.

A 2013 Ford Explorer was southbound on U.S. Highway 81. The vehicle, while making a left turn onto South Dakota Highway 28, turned in front of a northbound 2012 Ford F-350 pickup which was pulling a trailer loaded with construction equipment.

Betty Knutson, who was driving the Explorer, was transported by ambulance to the Watertown hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Sustaining minor injuries was Job Seppanen of Vienna, the 17-year-old driver of the pickup. He was taken to the Watertown hospital. He was cited for not wearing a seatbelt.

A 15-year-old male passenger in the pickup was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
