BROOKINGS – A Brookings man was airlifted to Sioux Falls and the other driver was cited after a car vs. moped collision about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to Lt. Derrick Powers of the Brookings Police Department.

Blake Azeveda, 29, of Brookings, sustained injuries, and Brookings Ambulance responded to the scene.

“He was later airlifted to Sioux Falls for further treatment. He was wearing a helmet,” Powers said.

Azeveda was driving a moped south on 22nd Avenue South when a 2010 Chrysler 300 driven by Casie King, 34, of Volga, was eastbound on 12th Street South. There is a stop sign on 12th Street South where it T’s into 22nd Avenue South, Powers said. King turned left onto 22nd to travel north.

“The vehicle didn’t see the moped, failed to yield to it and hit the moped as it was driving by,” Powers said.

“The driver of the vehicle was cited for reckless driving,” he said.

The moped received extensive damage and the Chrysler was damaged, but Powers had no estimates.
