"Stuffed toys" gets a new meaning with this ready-for-the-Christmas-crowds display of Webkinz at Cover to Cover in Brookings. Webkinz are one of the hottest toys on the market this season an updated version of the incredibly popular Beanie Babies, they're computer-interactive . Kids who own a Webkinz get their own secret code that allows them to create a virtual, online pet with their plush toy, a world where they can feed and care for their pet in its own room on the Webkinz Web site. Each Webkinz owner who "adopts" automatically becomes part of a computer community where he or she can decorate the pet's room, earn money for pet food and play games with other Webkinz owners. The toys sell locally for about $14 (computer sold separately). By the way, Beanie Babies 2.0 have also "gone virtual" with their own Web community.
