Pediatrics chair to deliver pharmacy convocation address

"Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders: An International Perspective" will be the feature presentation during the 18th annual Pharmacy Research Presentations and Convocation at South Dakota State University Oct. 20.

Sponsored by the College of Pharmacy, the event takes place at the SDSU Union in room 101. The program is divided into two sessions: research poster presentations from 1-3 p.m., followed by the pharmacy convocation from 3:30-4 :30 p.m.

The poster presentations, given by graduate and underg r a d u a t e s t u d e n t s , will be related to p h a r m ac e u t i c a l and biom e d i c a l research.

H . E u g e n e H o y m e , MD, will give the keynote address. He is professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls. He is also the chief medical officer at Sanford Children's Hospital.

Hoyme has served in numerous leadership roles in regional and national clinical and research organizations in pediatrics and medical genetics . His research focuses on the delineation of human malformation syndromes and fetal alcohol disorders.

Hoyme received his undergraduate degree from Augustana College and his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency, clinical genetics and his dysmorphology fellowship training at the University of California-San Diego.
