Seldom does this kind of accident report make it into the Brookings Police Department files: truck hits boat.

It happened on Interstate 29 just south of Brookings around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, when a northbound semitrailer truck hit a 14-foot boat that was lying on the interstate.

The boat came off a trailer being pulled by a Wisconsin man who didn’t know it was missing until he got to Watertown, when another motorist following him told him what happened.

According to a police report, 62-year-old Guerdon Darrell Browning of Platteville, Wis., was cited for failure to secure a load.

The truck driver, 50-year-old Michael Wartner of Hancock, Minn., wasn’t hurt and his truck had minor damage. Damage to the boat was a little more substantial.
