Faulty heat tape started a small fire in the Sinai post office Tuesday afternoon, causing only minor damage. Sinai firefighters and Brookings County sheriff's deputies were called to the scene at 1:30 p.m. Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said heat tape wrapping the sewer drain shorted out, igniting the fire underneath the post office's bathroom floor. The fire was extinguished quickly. Sebring said there didn't appear to be any structural damage other than a discolored floor due to the heat underneath the building. No injuries were reported.
