The Bandits took advantage of five Mitchell errors as they held on for an 11-7 win Monday night at Bob Shelden Field.
Joey Texley started on the hill for Brookings and he kept the Mitchell numbers on the scoreboard small, spreading out six runs over six innings to earn the win.
Texley had a shaky start, hitting the first two Post 18 batters. Mitchell's Alex Loes followed with a sacrifice bunt to third base to move Cade Hearnen and Ryan Buck to third and second, respectively .
Both runners ended up scoring, following a single and then a fielder's choice and Mitchell led early, 2-0 .
Brookings answered those two runs and added two more in the bottom half of the inning when Todd Standish doubled to deep leftcenter and then scored on Zach Thomas' single up the middle.
Thomas advanced to second on the relay throw home and scored when Jamison Kleinsasser ripped a ball to deep right field. Alex Parker followed with a two-run bomb to right center and gave the Bandits a 4-2 lead.
Mitchell tied the game in the third, but Brookings took the lead back when Thomas singled to lead off the inning.
The Bandits loaded the bases before Mitchell could record an out, but Thomas was the only runner to score and gave the Bandits the lead, 5-4 .
Post 18 tied the game again in the top of the fourth when Buck drilled a two-out offering to the wall in right-center , driving in Sean DeVries who led off the inning with a single.
The Bandits put the game out of reach in the bottom half of the inning when they scored four runs, with the help of two Mitchell errors, to put the score at 9-5 .
Brookings added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, when one hit was assisted by another Mitchell error to help the two runs cross.
Mitchell added a run in both the sixth and the ninth, but the relief pitching of Marcus Daniel and Andy Lee kept Post 18 in check and the Bandits strolled away with their fourth straight win.
Matt Thomas had a strong showing at the plate with three hits, while Standish, Zach Thomas and Kleinsasser each added two hits. Kleinsasser drove in two while Parker added three more RBIs.
Texley earned the win after giving up six runs on 11 hits while striking out two and walking one. Marcus threw two shutout innings in relief while Lee closed out the game after allowing one run.
The Bandits (14-10 ) face off against Sioux Falls West today with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bob Sheldon.
