Jasinski leads Jackrabbits at Drake Relays

Ben Jasinski turned in two top-six performances to lead the South Dakota State track and field teams at the 100th running of the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday.

Jasinski placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 48 feet, 9.5 inches and tied for sixth place in the high jump, clearing 6-8 .75.

Leading the Jacks on the women?s side was the 4x1,600-meter relay team of Danielle Burke, Nicole Davis, Emily Smith and Joni Strom. They placed 16th with a time of 21 minutes, 12.37 seconds.

In the field events, Michelle Schuch placed 13th in the hammer throw with a mark of 158-2 .

Jacks compete at Kip Janvrin and USF

In a split team performance, the Jackrabbit men?s and women?s track teams completed at the Kip Janvirn Open and University of Sioux Falls Invitational Friday night in Indianola, Iowa, and Sioux Falls.

Leading the men on the track at the Kip Janvrin Open was Marshall Kambestad with a thirdplace finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15 minutes, 32.16 seconds. Anthony Bongard finished in fifth place with a time of 15:41.54 while Brad Anderson came in sixth at 15:42.81.

Also coming in third on the night was Nick Schanaman in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished with a time of 14.90 seconds.

Christi Rosenbrook led the women with a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.37 seconds. In the middle distances, Danielle Burke paced the Jacks in the 800-meter run with a fourthplace finish in a time of 2:18.78. Amanda Frohling and Nicole Davis each placed fourth in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs, respectively. Frohling came in with a time of 11:42.35, while Davis finished with a time of 18:18.54. USF Invitational The SDSU women took home four first-place finishes to the men?s one at the University of Sioux Falls Invitational on Friday night in Sioux Falls.

Lora Shearer led the women with a first-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 7 inches . Her mark moves her into fifth all-time at SDSU while also tying her for the second-best mark in the Summit League this season.

Brooke Garner was a mulitevent champion in the discus and the shot put on the night. Garner tossed the shot put 43-00 .25, while setting a mark of 126-11 in the discus .

Ashley Lange placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 38-4 .

For the men, Sean Burns placed first while also moving up the ranks at SDSU and the Summit League in the hammer throw. His toss of 158-2 is good for third alltime at SDSU and fourth best in the Summit League this season.

The Jacks return to the track Friday and Saturday at the Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls.
