• Commission declines to take stance, at this time, on private building on university land
BROOKINGS – The Brookings County Commission won’t stand against South Dakota State University’s plan to lease some of its tax-free land to a private developer for an apartment building housing upper-level students. At least, not now.
Some commissioners had earlier expressed concern that the county wouldn’t receive its usual tax revenue from a building on state land, as it would from a building on private land. But they agreed Tuesday that too many questions exist for the commission to officially oppose the project.
