• Homeowners should get new rolling bins this spring
BROOKINGS – The city got a bit more bang for its buck last Tuesday when the council approved an order for 2,720 rolling recycling carts.
The city had expected to pay as much as $70 per cart, but the bid from Sanitation Products Inc. of Sioux Falls came in at $57 – and that meant the city could buy about 500 more of the carts for the money it had budgeted. It was the only bid received.
The cart purchase is part of a dramatically expanded recycling program in Brookings that will usher in automated, curbside pickup of recyclable materials.
