• City paying for most of $5.3M wastewater facility, but officials say return on investment will be high
BROOKINGS – Bel Brands got an early Christmas present this week.
The Brookings City Council approved bids Tuesday for a wastewater pretreatment facility for the cheese making plant, which is now under construction north of the Swiftel Center.
The city’s $5.3 million gift wasn’t unexpected – it was part of the deal that lured the international food company to Brookings.
The winning bid was submitted by John T. Jones Construction Co. of Fargo, N.D.
