• Theanne Peterson retiring from Brookings hospital after 37 years as OB nurse
BROOKINGS – After one year working on the surgical circle, a position opened up in obstetrics at what was then Brookings Hospital. Theanne Peterson took it, in 1976, and has loved her job ever since.
“Of course the best part is seeing healthy babies born and seeing happy parents; that’s the best part,” Peterson said, adding that the worst part has been the occasions when the opposite is true, a baby is sick.
“The fun part is the good outcomes, the wonderful staff, and I have to say the whole hospital is wonderful,” she said. “I had my two children here; I’ve been a patient on the circles, and I’ve always gotten good care. So, I can’t say enough good stuff about Brookings Health.”
Peterson has been the delivery nurse for 972 babies and has assisted with more than 1,000 deliveries at the Brookings hospital.
