• Most homes will see bills rise by less than $5 a month
BROOKINGS – The Brookings Municipal Utilities (BMU) Board confirmed Monday what they’d already announced a month ago: customers will see a modest hike in utilities bills next year, for most homes in the city less than $5 a month.
Just last week, the city council authorized BMU to proceed with a $30.6 million loan for the Phase I overhaul of the municipal wastewater system, and this week the BMU trustees reciprocated, voting to transfer $2 million of its revenues to help fund city operations in 2013.
