• State now pays 80 percent, may drop to 60
BROOKINGS – Lately, South Dakota’s Department of Transportation has set aside the same amount of money each year for bridge replacement and repair. Meanwhile, costs to do that work continue to rise.
Added to that, Brookings County commissioners said Tuesday that they expect to pay a larger share of construction costs if they want projects done in good time.
Commissioner Alan Gregg said the issue arose recently during a meeting of Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership. “One of the commissioners mentioned that the state is planning on dropping their percentage of pay of the bridges that are on the list, from 80 percent to 60,” Gregg said.
