BROOKINGS – With only a few weeks to go, summer is soon coming to an end. But that’s not the case for road construction season, with some major projects just ramping up this month.
In Brookings, three roadways are getting a facelift this week.
The City of Brookings will start several asphalt overlay projects during the week of Sept. 3. Streets affected are:
• Medary Avenue between Sixth Street and 15th Street South
• Lefevre Drive between the Hampton Inn driveway and the east side of the cul-de-sac
• Pheasant Run Road between Arrowhead Pass and 12th Street South
Bowes Construction is contractor for the project. Work includes milling (grinding) the top of the existing asphalt surface. After the grinding process is complete, Bowes will pave the streets with a 2-inch asphalt overlay.
City officials say traffic will be able to drive through the area during the milling operation, and drivers are encouraged to follow the traffic control signage.
“The asphalt paving operation will likely cause congestion,” says a press release from the City of Brookings.
“However, drivers are encouraged to drive slowly while in the project area and to follow the traffic control. Drivers may also want to use alternate routes during the project.”
People are encouraged to check the City of Brookings website for updates on this project and other city projects using the following link: www.cityofbrookings.org/index.aspx?NID=221.
Officials asked for the public’s patience during the construction project. For more information, call City Engineer Jackie Lanning or Assistant City Engineer Thad Drietz at 692-6629.
